Welcome to the blog for the First Year Book Project at UMD for the 2014-2015 academic year. Here you will find posts by some of our faculty across campus who have engaged with the book The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion from a disciplinary perspective. They will give you insights into how some of Haidt’s ideas might be used in a variety of ways by a variety of fields of study. Their posts are meant to provoke thought and discussion and to give you a deeper understanding of the text and perhaps how it applies to your life as a student and member of the UMD community. Happy reading class of 2018!

You don’t have to create a blog. You just need to create a comment, which you’ve done here already. So, go to one of the posts by our guest bloggers, scroll down to the bottom and hit “leave a reply” under the comments section.

When I’m trying to find what other incoming students have blogged about I find myself always reading a post from the faculty. Is that because we are supposed to just comment on what the faculty posted? Also does this count as a post??

Hi Jacob, when you go to the bottom of the professor posts you will see a button that lists the number of comments there. If you click on that, you’ll see all the student responses. Hope that helps!
